HOUSTON, Texas (July 6, 2021) —- FCC Environmental Services recently received Texas’ first gold-level certifications by the Glass Recycling Coalition for its Dallas and Houston materials recycling facilities.
The certification program recognizes MRFs that produce more marketable and higher-quality glass utilizing additional equipment and operational procedures to clean up glass in both single- and dual-stream systems.
“FCC Environmental Services proudly accepts these certifications as a testament to our state-of-the-art technology designed to produce quality materials,” said CEO Inigo Sanz.
FCC Environmental Services made industry waves in 2018 when the City of Houston awarded the company a 15-year contract with an option for a 5-year extension to process all recyclable materials. When the MRF opened in 2019, more than 400,000 households could recycle glass for the first time in three years.

“FCC was glad to return glass recycling to the City of Houston for the benefit of our community,” Sanz said.
The Glass Recycling Coalition MRF Glass Certification was launched in 2019, and in 2021, updated its certification criteria to prioritize end-market consistency and more thorough glass cleaning before beneficiations.
Eligible applications are judged on current infrastructure and a glass purity measure aligning with ISRIs Three-Mix Specification. An independent committee scores certification levels into gold, silver, and bronze categories. MRFs holding this certification have a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
