FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Houston, TX – July 14, 2025 – FCC Environmental Services, a leader in environmental and waste and recycle solutions across seven U.S. states, is proud to announce the official acquisition of Wheelabrator South Broward Inc., the owner of the South Broward Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from WIN Waste Innovations.
This acquisition represents a pivotal step in expanding FCC Environmental Services’ residential, commercial, and renewable waste management capabilities across North America. Florida remains FCC’s largest U.S. operational hub, where we currently serve more than 900,000 residential homes and thousands of commercial customers. With this addition, FCC Environmental Services further strengthens its position as a sustainability leader, delivering end-to-end solutions to meet the growing demand for environmentally responsible waste services.
“This is more than a business transaction — it’s a strategic move aligned with our mission: Working responsibly today for a better environment tomorrow,” said Dan Brazil, CEO of FCC Environmental Services. “We look forward to partnering with Broward County and integrating this Waste-to-Energy operation into our expanding sustainable portfolio, based on proven methods from FCC Enviro’s global operations.”
The Broward WtE facility transforms solid waste into clean energy, reducing landfill dependency while contributing power back to the grid. Each day, approximately 2,250 tons of waste is processed, generating enough electricity annually to power over 41,000 homes. Additionally, the facility recovers around 15,000 tons of metals each year, which are redirected for further recycling.
FCC Environmental Services draws on the extensive global experience from its parent company, FCC Enviro, which has more than 50 years of experience in energy recovery from non-recyclable waste. FCC Enviro currently has 13 Waste-to-Energy energy recovery projects underway, processing 4.2 million tons of waste annually and generating a total power output of 410 Megawatts electrical (MWe).
