RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE COLLECTION

HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE

Food scraps, packaging, clothing, toys, and small appliances must be containerized at the curb before 7:00 a.m.
All household garbage must be placed in your totes.
Place totes and waste within 5 feet of the curb.
Never place hazardous materials in household garbage.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

Used oil, wet paint, batteries, propane tanks, pool chemicals and other hazardous materials cannot be collected curbside.
Take them to a household hazardous-waste facility.
Call the Solid Waste Hotline at 386-947-2952 for hours and the nearest location.
Do not bring hazardous materials to Public Works.

HOUSEHOLD CONSTRUCTION TRASH

Major construction debris - including lumber, drywall, fencing, paneling, concrete, piping and roofing material - is not included in residential curbside service.
The owner must legally dispose of it.
Call FCC at 386-888-8299 for pricing on additional services, or City Public Works Department at 386-424-2212 for approved roll-off vendors.

BULK TRASH

Bulk trash is collected weekly on your second scheduled trash collection day (Thursday or Friday).
Bulk trash may include furniture, mattresses, TVs, dishwashers, stoves, washers, dryers, freezers, stereos, televisions, and similar items.
Maximum volume is no more than 4 cubic yards. Do not exceed these limits.
Special pickup must be arranged for refrigerators and air conditioning units using Freon.
Refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed. Allow 1-5 days for pickup.

COMMERCIAL ACCOUNTS

Commercial garbage accounts must be established through the City Public Works at 386-424-2212.

DIABETIC NEEDLES

Needles, syringes, drugs and other biohazardous waste require special handling.
Contact the Health Department at 386-424-2065 for proper disposal instructions.

COMMERCIAL GARBAGE COLLECTION

Businesses can set up commercial garbage collection by calling the City of New Smyrna Beach at 386-424-2212.

Commercial Recycling

Commercial cardboard recycling is available directly through FCC Environmental Services. Please call 386-888-8299 for more information.

Commercial Collection

Commercial garbage collection service can be setup by calling the City of New Smyrna Beach at 386-424-2212.

Commercial services are available Monday-Saturday.

Service is provided two times per week for small commercial waste generators with 96-gallon toters, and with 2, 4, 6, or 8 cubic yard dumpsters serviced up to six times each week.

Roll-off compactors and open-top containers are also available in sizes ranging from 10 – 40 cubic yards.

Construction & Cleanups

Open-top roll-off containers come in 10, 20 and 30 cubic yard sizes for your construction and cleanup projects.

Services are provided Monday-Saturday.

YARD WASTE AND SPECIAL ITEMS

Pruning trees to reduce potential damage from falling branches is key when preparing for hurricanes, which is why we’ve established a special yard waste pickup schedule for customers in five different zones – one for each day of the week – to bring piles four cubic yards or larger to the curb.

This change does not replace our regular yard waste pickup schedule, which will still run citywide collection routes Monday thru Friday.

As a reminder, branches must be less than six inches in diameter and less than four feet long while grass clippings, leaves, and other small debris must be in cans or bags when staged curbside.

YARD WASTE

Yard waste is collected once a week. CLICK HERE to find out your scheduled yard waste collection day or possible garbage pickup changes.
Items must be less than 6 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet.
The total pile may not exceed 4 cubic yards.
- If the amount of yard waste is over these limits, you will receive a tag advising that you have exceeded the limit.
Per City Ordinance, any waste generated by a contractor - including a lawn service, tree trimmer, yardman or tree surgeon - must be removed by the contractor who generated the debris at the contractor's own expense.

MOTOR OIL

Used motor oil filters should be drained for a minimum of three hours and may be placed in an oil container with household waste.
Used motor oil may be disposed of at 24-hour recycling igloos at the locations below. Please place used cans in the container next to the igloo.
- South Beach Fire Station, 4840 S. Atlantic Ave.
- Volusia County Public Works, 530 N. Dixie Fwy.
Do not add gasoline, cleaning fluids, solvents or chemicals. Drain oil filters for at least three hours before placing them in the designated container or regular garbage.
Residential use only.

TIRES

Whenever possible, leave old tires with the tire retailer.
Up to eight regular passenger tires per residence per year may be placed at the curb on a normal garbage day or taken to Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road.

HEATING/FUEL AND BATTERIES

Leave old vehicle batteries with the retailer when possible; batteries may also be taken to Tomoka Landfill.

CITY (RESIDENT) RECYCLING DROP OFF LOCATIONS

Per the City’s request, residents may continue recycling by delivering accepted materials to the designated drop-off locations provided below:
- Sugar Mill Trail- 433 Sugar Mill Dr.
- 27th Avenue- 3701 S. Atlantic Ave.
- Public Works Complex – 124 Industrial Park Ave

ROUTE COLLECTION MAPS

Here is what to expect:

Each household will receive one new FCC-provided, 96-gallon wheeled cart for household waste. After the first 90 days of service, residents may request a 64-gallon cart; to reserve one, email kmoran@cityofnsb.com. Bear-resistant 96-gallon carts will also be available for purchase from the City for $290.

Residents will receive household waste collection twice each week and yard waste collection once each week. On the 2nd waste collection day, you may also place up to four cubic yards of bulk waste next to your cart.

Household waste must be placed inside the new FCC-issued cart, while yard waste may be placed in your existing garbage cans or bags.
